I've never been drawn to books, t.v. shows, or movies that deal with ordinary things. Give me something weird, something unusual, something fantastic. Why? I guess it's because, to me, real life can be rather boring sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I love my family and friends, but I need an escape outlet when seeking entertainment:)
So I guess that I'm drawn to anything under the speculative fiction umbrella. Aliens, space travel, time travel, dystopias, ghosts, angels, faeries, and zombies all rock my world. (I'm getting tired of the vampires/werewolves thing.) It's the element of the unknown, taking an ordinary person in ordinary circumstances and throwing them smack dab in the middle of something extraordinary that gets my blood to pumping.
If you could look at my bookshelf you'd see The Hunger Games trilogy, The Gemma Doyle series, The Mortal Instruments series, The Dead-Tossed Waves, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Life As We Knew It (and the two sequels), Hex Hall and so on, with only a few contemporary titles spaced out.
This isn't something I've latched onto recently - I've always gravitated toward the strange and unusual. (Hmmm...does that make me strange and unusual? ) Anyway, I remember when I was little, I LOVED watching Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, all of the Indiana Jones movies, and Poltergeist. Yeah, strange pickings for a kid, much less a female. My friends thought I was weird, but oh well, it's what I liked.
So what kinds of things do you like to read or what types of t.v. shows/movies do you tend to watch? Any suggestions for me to read/watch? (And I'm not a snob toward other genres - I'm willing to check out anything if I get a recommendation.) Thanks!

Anyway, I've heard that spoilers are already popping up on the 'net, so I'm trying to stay away from them. But it's hard because I want to know what happens. Catching Fire left us with a HUGE cliffhanger (which is awesome and sucks at the same time). All I can say is I hope Katniss makes the right choice. #TEAMPEETAFTW
And before I go, here's a fabulous fan-made trailer for The Hunger Games. (Found at http://myhungergames.com/). Check it out!
So are you looking forward to Mockingjay? Are you Team Peeta, Team Gale, or Team Katniss?

Okay, so I know it's been a loooooooooong time since my last post. Like end of June long time ago. I was supposed to take a few weeks to finish my WIP, but you know how life gets:)
Anyway, I'm super excited/doing flips/shouting from the rooftops giddy because I did it!
I. Finally. Finished. It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's right folks, I am out of drafting mode. Done. And let me tell you, it feels ah-may-zing. My CP, Tina Lynn, was IM chatting with me last night while I finished that last chapter and she celebrated with me when I typed "The End." (Poor thing stayed up late so she could be there when I finished!) And being the huge dork that I am, I actually cried. Please don't judge.
So what's next? Well, it's been forever since I even started this thing, so I have a lot of distance between me and the beginning chapters. That means I could take a few days off then start revising (and the lovely Natalie is waiting to read it, but I won't let her until I fix the first part).
Or I can go to plan B. Shiny New Idea. Yep, one of those bad boys has been tickling my subconscious, itching to get put on paper. Not sure which route I'm going yet, but I'll made a decision soon. Right now, I'm celebrating!!!!!!!!
So where are you in your WIPs? And how do you celebrate once you finish the first draft?
