Things That Make Me Smile

You know, it seems like it's easy to find things in life that aren't so great. I know I've had my share of bad things to happen, especially last year. One thing I've learned is if you dwell on those not so great things, the way you perceive things will become negative. This year I've decided to try something else, see if I can look for more good things in life. Things that make me smile. Some of those things are:

* Spending time with my family. That seems to be a no-brainer, but sometimes I get so caught up in my hermit-like ways that I ignore the fam. Not good. Especially when they can always find a way to make me happy.

* Castle. Oh, how I love this show. I mean, it has Nathan Fillion.
That's exciting enough, isn't it?

* Chocolate donuts from the bakery. I know I shouldn't get them, but they're sooooo good. Not so good for my waistline, but whatevs. I can always diet later, right?

* Writing epiphanies. Y'all, I haven't had one of those in a long time and I finally got one yesterday concerning something that's been bugging me with my WiP. It felt AMAZING! I was in the car on the way home from picking up my kids from school when it hit me. I literally ran in the house after telling my oldest to get the toddler out so I could scribble down some notes before I forgot them.

* The movie MIDNIGHT IN PARIS. I watched it this week and all I can say is wow. A writer who's in Paris travels through time to the 1920's. So. Cool.

So what are some things that have made you smile lately?

Sometimes You Need a Bribe

I've got a confession. I haven't written a thing since the beginning of December. *hangs head in shame* I've read over the last few chapters I've wrote I don't know how many times, but I can't keep going. Back in December, I told myself Self, it's the holiday season. And you just wrote 40K in November. TAKE A BREAK. But I'm having trouble ending that break. I still love my story. I need to finish. I want to finish. But but but...

Anyway, I used to teach. I have kids of my own. I know that sometimes they need a little motivation to get things done. So I'm going to apply that motivation to myself. That's right folks, I'm going to bribe myself to finish my book. Nothing huge, just some little things I've been wanting for a while but I haven't gotten around to doing/getting. And if you want to know, those things include:

Seems like everybody has a tumblr these days. #feelsleftout

I've never watched Downton Abbey and I keep hearing lots of people talking about how AMAZING it is. I REALLY want to watch an episode like NOW, but I won't until I finish my book. #criesalittle

Here's another series I want to check out. I've heard lots of good things about it. So I'll be watching it sometime soonish. #ihope

So there you have it. My bribes for myself. Have you  ever had to bribe yourself to do or finish something? What did you use as a reward?
